The demanding driver can soon find the limits of a standard braking system. When brakes get hot the pads give off a gas, this gas then gets stuck between the pad and disc and will push the pad off of the disc stopping your brakes working. This effect is called brake fade. Fitting grooved or drilled discs dispels the gases and stops this happening. They will also give more bite, and clean the pad face of any dust and debris given off. Drilled discs were a good option of gas dispersion, but as pads have got better, and can generate more heat, it causes problems with drilled discs cracking, if you drill a disc, you are drilling through the grain structure so are weakening it, cars such as Porsche’s and BMW’s that have drilled discs out the factory, actually have the discs cast with the holes already in them, then they have a machined finish, so the grain structure will follow the shape of the holes making them much stronger, and less likely to crack. Due to the cracking problem, we no longer offer drilled discs and they are too unreliable for fast road / track use , any make of drilled disc will end up cracking so our advice is to fit grooved only discs. |

2 Piece discs and bells for standard calipers |

For the harder drivers , and drivers taking part in track days , we can also offer our own make 2 piece discs and bells to fit with the standard fit Brembo callipers, a 2 piece disc offers the benefits of being lighter so has less unsprung weight, aluminium bells which dissipates heat quicker than a one piece grey iron disc, so the disc runs cooler, and you don’t get as much heat transfer into your wheel bearings, and also will allow a small amount of movement between the disc and bells as they expand and contract which stops them distorting and warping out of shape. |
